Auditions 2023

Auditions will be hosted on August 22 and 23 in Spaulding Recital Hall, which is in basement of Alden Hall. Auditions are required for those looking to play with WPI Jazz Groups for the first time or those looking to move to a different group.

Audition requirements are as follows:

  • A couple major scales + Bb and F concert blues scales
  • Prepared jazz piece of your choice
  • Short sight-reading
  • Improvised solo over 12-bar blues in a key of your choice or jazz standard of your choice
  • Range check for brass players

Celebrate the Music of New Orleans with WPI Jazz Groups!

Join us for Life in the Big Easy this Sunday, February 19th at 3pm in Alden Hall.

In spirit of our trip to New Orleans at the end of the year, we are celebrating the music of New Orleans through performances by Stage Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo, as well as with GUEST ARTISTS Jerry Sabatini, Amedee Castenell, and Henri Smith.

There are no tickets required for this event. We hope to see you there!

WPI Jazz Groups is going to New Orleans!

We are excited to announce that WPI Jazz Groups will be traveling to New Orleans during the summer of 2023! In 2020, our trip to New Orleans was sadly canceled due to the pandemic. With travel restrictions lifted, we are bringing back this educational experience for WPI jazzers! We aim to make the New Orleans Trip available to every participating member by alleviating part of the financial burden. We’re asking for funds to help cover participating students’ airfare and kickstart our on-campus fundraising opportunities.

WPI Pops is back!

Join us on Sunday, October 30th in Alden Hall for the return of WPI Pops! Grab your friends and enjoy a concert featuring performances by Jazz Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and a special John Williams tribute by Concert Band!

This concert is FREE and open to the public! We hope to see you there!

WPI Jazz Groups at Mechanics Hall!

Join us on April 24th at 12:00pm as WPI Jazz Groups performs at Mechanics Hall! This is our biggest performance of the year and will feature Stage Band 1, Stage Band 2, and Jazz Ensemble!

The show is free and open to the public however tickets must be reserved at this link.

Proof of COVID vaccination or negative COVID test result is required for entry.

Women in Jazz: February 20th at 4pm!

Join us on February 20th in WPI’s Alden Hall as Jazz Groups celebrates Women in Jazz with Stage Band 1, Stage Band 2, and Jazz Ensemble!

Featuring music by Mary Lou Williams, Carla Bley, Rebecca Mauleon, Maria Schneider, and guest artists Grammy award winning baritone saxophonist Lauren Sevian and the Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra!

This show is free and open to the public however face masks and proof of vaccination or negative COVID test is required at the door for entry!
